Timezone Overlap (tzoverlap.app, the “Site”) is a free, browser-based tool for finding meeting times across time zones. It is operated by a private individual based in Belgium (“we”, “us”). For anything related to this policy, you can reach us at privacy@tzoverlap.app. We act as the data controller for the limited processing described below.
The tool itself collects nothing: the cities, working hours and dates you enter are processed entirely inside your browser and are never sent to us. There are no accounts, no forms and no analytics. However, the Site shows advertising provided by Google AdSense, and advertising involves cookies and personal data processed by Google and its partners — in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and Switzerland this only happens with your consent.
Everything you type into the planner (city names, working hours, the chosen date, the 12h/24h preference) stays on your device. To make plans shareable, your selections are encoded into the page address (URL) in your browser; that URL is only transmitted anywhere if you yourself copy and share it. We do not use our own cookies, local storage, accounts or tracking, and we receive none of the information you enter.
The Site is delivered by Cloudflare. Like virtually all web hosts, it may briefly process technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested in server logs, in order to deliver the Site and protect it against abuse. The legal basis for this is our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not combine this data with anything else, and it is retained only as long as the hosting provider’s standard log retention requires.
We display ads through Google AdSense, operated by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) and Google LLC. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies (such as device identifiers and web beacons) to serve and measure ads. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this Site and/or other sites on the internet.
In connection with advertising, Google and its certified partners may process personal data such as your IP address, cookie and device identifiers, approximate (coarse) location, information about your browser and device, and your interactions with ads. Depending on the choices you make in our consent banner, ads may be personalized (based on your interests and prior browsing) or non-personalized (based only on general context, such as the page content and your approximate location).
You can learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, review the Google Privacy Policy, and see the cookie types Google uses at policies.google.com/technologies/cookies. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and you can opt out of many other vendors’ personalized ads at aboutads.info/choices or, for the EU, youronlinechoices.eu.
If you visit from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are set, using a Google-certified consent management platform. Consent is the legal basis for personalized advertising (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and the ePrivacy rules). You are free to refuse, and you can change or withdraw your choices at any time via the “Manage Cookie Preferences” link in the footer of the Site; withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You can also delete or block cookies at any time in your browser settings, although the Site’s core functionality works fully without any cookies.
Google may transfer personal data collected for advertising to servers outside the EEA, including in the United States. Such transfers rely on safeguards recognised under the GDPR, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. Details are available in Google’s privacy documentation linked above.
We ourselves store no personal data, so we have nothing to retain or delete. Hosting logs are kept for the short period set by the hosting provider. The lifespans of advertising cookies are set by Google and its partners and are described in Google’s cookie documentation.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase personal data concerning you, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. Because we do not hold any personal data about you, the most effective way to exercise these rights for advertising data is directly with Google — for example through Ads Settings and your Google account — or via the “Manage Cookie Preferences” link. You can of course also contact us at privacy@tzoverlap.app and we will help where we can.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state of your residence. The authority responsible for us is the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit / Autorité de protection des données), www.dataprotectionauthority.be.
If you reside in a US state with a comprehensive privacy law (such as California), you may have the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information or of targeted advertising. You can exercise this through the “Manage Cookie Preferences” link and the Google opt-out tools above.
The Site is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children; as described above, we do not collect personal data from anyone ourselves.
If we add features that change how data is handled (for example analytics), we will update this policy and the “Last updated” date above before the change takes effect.
